Just a quick questions here. What is a good thickness to use for intarsia pieces? Thanks
-
From my limited experience with intarsia, again it depends on the project and the piece being portrayed, but 3/4 inch is not uncommon.

Ok, thanks Al. I have some 1/4" woods that I could make something with, but didn't know if it would work out.
-
I have been told by The Best that normally you use 3/4" stock.
You might ask Intarsia92 as He Is The Best .... Danny :+}

95% of my Intarsias are made using 3/4" stock. I do have some 1-1/2" on hand, but seldom have need for it and if I need thinner than 3/4" I'll rip or sand down the 3/4" stock to the thickness required.
Each time I go to a big box store or lumber yard I'll spend a few minutes looking for boards, especially Poplar and Cedar, that are unique in color or have grain patterns I think I might need and pick them up while available.

Like most are saying. 3/4" is the most common thickness for
doing intarsia.

I use 3/8" thick stock for Intarsia. I resaw one inch wood to 3/8" I sometimes will add a little 1/8" Masonite to the back to raise a piece up a bit. I use 1/8" Masonite for backing of the whole project also.
