I use a lot of the 1/8 and 1/4" Baltic Birch but also like Poplar for some projects.  I also like red oak although some people call that a dirty word but it is plentiful in this area.  I like pine if the pattern is not too delicate.

General Scroll Saw Talk / clear tape
« on: July 23, 2019, 11:36:23 am »
I would like to testify today.  First of all, I think Steve may have been somewhat angry when he designed the rose vase pattern.  I just finished cutting the vase and roses in cherry.  That is definitely punishment and I have 3 more to do.  I did solve one riddle however, as I was cutting the outside.  As usual, the cherry was burning pretty badly and all of a sudden I reached a place where I had put some clear tape to help hold the pattern down and the burning ended until I got past the tape.  That blade was hot when I reached the tape and it did not burn at all as long as I was cutting through the tape.  I am now a believer and will forever be putting a cover of clear tape before cutting.

I have been a top feeder ever since I got my DeWalt.  Don't think I could ever go back to bottom feeding.

I used to have a source for the Eastern red cedar for .75 a bd ft.  Used some for closet angels that were cut then added a hanger.  They were unfinished for the scent.  It can be renewed with a light sanding after it fades.

Welcome from the not so high Ozarks.  Spent some time in Arriba, LaJunta and NW of Ft. Collins quite a few years ago.  Decided CO was a great state after Memorial Day and before Labor Day.

I have a magnifier but never liked it as was difficult to get it located correctly.  I keep a pair of cheap reading glasses 4.0 to wear when I am cutting delicate areas.  They work fine until you look up across the shop and definitely don't try walking with them.  I also have some of the folding lamps that I can swing into position.
