new to photo pattern
« on: May 09, 2013, 06:22:51 pm »
I just made my first photo pattern.
Posted them below, I was wondering if you guys think I got all the detail out of the picture.
Sometimes it looks alright then other times it don't.
Or is that normal to be that way.

That's probably the best you can do with such a grainy picture. Good job.

Looks good to me, but it's easier if you don't know the subjects. Did you go through the Gimp/Inkscape process or is this a threshold rendering?

The first glance at a portrait hits the eyes. You can add a lot  of reality to a portrait by adding the eyeball highlights, even if the photo doesn't clearly give them to you. They have to be consistent in all eyes to look right - at about the same location and usually not in the pupil.

Good! Thanks for all the input.
I seen some very nice one come out of here, So I wanted to check with you guys.
I did use the Gimp/inkscape method as well.
Eieio thanks for the instruction on that method, It helped me a bunch!

Considering the poor resolution of the original picture I thought you did a great job.

I like that. I must admit, I prefer portrait patterns that show the likeness without using lots of detail. Obviously makes it easier to cut too, but I always think, if you want lots of detail, frame the photo. ;D
