Title: Arched or circular Script
Post by: Gabby on May 15, 2011, 05:11:36 pm
Does anyone know how to create arched or circular script and what program makes it possible?
I'm working in Windows XP Home edition. I think i've seen it done using Office but I'm not sure.
Thanks for any help.

You can do it using "word art" in ms word.

either notepad or wordpad in windows  has alot of different script types that you select in the toolbar.

I've been mucking with "word art" for at least an hour and getting more frustrated by the minute. i finally did accomplish an arch but couldn't get it to form into a circle.

Word pad only works in a common straight horizontal line. I have a slew of fonts available that;s not my problem.

I would like to be able to print around the circumference of a round plaque or any other shape I might choose.
Arrrgggghhh  >:(
Thanks anyway for the suggestions,
Gabby

Steve shows how in one of his videos using corel I think.  I've looked for a link for you but can't find it right now.  I think he was showing how to do ornaments in it if that helps.

Ok, so my inner teacher got the best of me and I made up this PDF with a bunch of info on "FontWork" in Open Office.
I hope it is helpful, let me know if you have questions.

Note* The pdf had to be cut into three pieces.

fontwork is open office's version of word art. I think most of the concepts are the same, but the icons are different. I might be able to put together something for word, I'll see what I can do

Thank you Katie, I'll give that a whirl, at least your tutorial made sense. I tried to get similar info from MS word help, but it takes so long to find what your looking for and they have it named something else than expected, usually as TECH speak as well. I don't remember seeing similar symbols in WORD but if I did they didn't mean anything to me at the time.
Thanks again, fer all us ignoramouses. (m.s.s.o.p.)  ;D

Gabby, just do what your favorite teacher says!

Katie knows that open office is a very useful and simple to use office suite.
I also suggest to play with the "Draw" in OO, which is really simple to use.
I do most of my basic patterns with that one!

@ Katie
Well done. I have a complex software that also needs some manual - I'm currently stuck on something like page 120...

regards
Torsten

Wow, Katie.  What more could we ask for?  A great teacher who goes out of her way to show us what we need and how to get the task done.  Thank you very much!

CrabbyBoater - I laugh every time I read your screenname. My inlaws own a small marina and my family spends a lot of time working with it. We have nicknames for several of the boaters. One of which is CrabbyBoater, I hope that you are a much happier person the the one I know. Thanks for the compliments to my work, I am happy to help out when ever I can.

Gabby.
Go to you tube and put Word Art in the Search box and you will get all the info you want and can go back as many times as you like and its FREE. In fact I find the Tube good for most subject questions I have

LOL Iggy.

Good idea.
I may design the fence using Word Art with a message or two for those I want to keep out.

I use corel to do script editing.
but inkscape has the same option. its called "text on a path" in the text menu.

try the help section:
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Path.html (http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Path.html)

works fine

made a small tutorial

type text "hallo"
changed text font into scrollsaw
made a circle shape
select text and shape
select text on a path in the text menu.

(use space to position the text on the shape)

lets saw   ;D

First thank you for the tutorial.  Second, what is going on.  I open the PDF file, read it. Played around in Open Office with it.  Wanted to read something again, tried to re-open the file and it says it is a "PHP" file and I don't have software that handles PHP files.  What would cause this.  I can open it again, one time if I reboot and come back to it.
