General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: how to
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:55:05 pm »
Hi Graham, one of the things that effects this type of cutting is which way your table tilts, to go from drop downs to raised you need to cut in the opposite direction, if your drop downs are cut clockwise then to make them proud you need to cut anticlockwise, I hope that this makes sense.

With spray glue it's important that it's repositionable. My local art shop sells repositionable glue, 3m and it's own brand. Also Wilkos sell Bostick Fast tac repositionable which I find just as good as the 3m but a lot cheaper.

My mobile phone (which I always have with me in the workshop) has a stopwatch feature in it so I just use that if I want to know how long a project takes. I now know that one of Steve Goods noses takes me 15mins from starting to glue up ready for Danish oil :D :D

Merlin, In Corel Draw the text has to be converted to curves then you'll be able to weld the text, highlight the text, go to the Arrange tab and then down to convert to curves.

Well I would like to cut it but it's one I won't be cutting, the back issue is $7.95 but to post it to the UK is $13.95. Why don't magazine publishers put back issues as a pdf so we can download them just like pattern makers do.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: help scroll saw machine
« on: July 16, 2012, 07:00:57 am »
I have both a Delta 40-560 and a 40-540 I would say have the Delta, but having just Googled Black and Decker bt1600 and finding a video I think that the 40-540 and bt 1600 are the same machines, just a different colour. I think that they are all one company now. If it's the same machine then which ever is the cheapest would be my choice.
Watch this video and see if it's the same machine

The Coffee Shop / Re: Names

My forum name came about from when I first started on computers, my niece suffers with Fredrick?s Ataxia and the whole family was tested for the gene and I was told I was a carrier, so I chose hermes, (the UK had an aircraft carrier HMS Hermes :D) but it was taken on some forums so being an installer of loft insulation at the time I added lofty to it and became loftyhermes.

Brag Forum / Wolf from Gills pattern
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:47:49 am »
Wolf cut from a pattern by Gill, thanks Gill, it's cut using a No.1 FDSR blade from a piece of 1/4 inch mahogany salvaged from an old wardrobe. The size is 10" by 8" and finished with Chestnut hard wax oil thinned down a little and backed with black paper.

I did use Firefox but it became slow so I switched to Seamonkey which, apparently  is Firefox based but I find it a lot faster
