General Scroll Saw Talk / Grain direction selection
« on: September 11, 2013, 04:19:08 pm »
Other than using the wood grain to enhance the project, what criteria should be used to select grain direction with any pattern? When cutting fretwork small pieces seem to go all directions with, across, and diagonal to the grain. What should be used to select the best direction?

Thanks, but I would like to duplicate the font the designer used. That way I  might have to only change one or two words rather than refonting the entire project. By the way I really enjoy using WordArt. It is a good looking font and cuts nicely with a scroll saw.

Computer questions / Re: CorelDraw

I found this answer. Steve had a video where he demonstrated how to make a forest scene clock.
He filled the wood with a wood pattern. The way to do it is to save a copy of the wood and then import it to your active file. First, Pick on the sample, then click on "Effects, Power Clip, and Place Inside Container". Make sure that the size of the sample wood is larger than the pattern you are making. So EASY when you know how.

Steve,
I appreciate and enjoy your web site and you tube articles. I sometimes change the pattern to fit my use. One large problem that I had in the past is when I just want to change a word or two in your pattern. Usually I end up changing the font and normally use WordArt. However, it might really help if you could post the name of the font that you used originally.
Of course this all depends on the premise that you do not mind my altering your pattern.
Thanks for all of your help.

Computer questions / CorelDraw
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:53:32 pm »
Using CorelDraw, I would like to "fill" a pattern that I am working on with a wood patterned and color fill. For instance I would use a oak fill and then change to a walnut fill in order to determine the best looking wood for the project.
Anyone have any ideas on how to bring in a sample of wood into CorelDraw?

Pattern Requests. / Re: New Patterns?

I would like to see a pattern for a Santa Claus Sleigh.
I built a couple of raindeer and thought that having them pulling a sleigh would be nice.
Cherry tree had a pattern, but, it appears it has been removed from thier catalog.

I asked about the "Friends" sign font but maybe I need to be more generic.

What fonts do you sign makers prefer?

I would like to know what fonts are best for cutting into a board and also cutting out individual standing letters.

Thanks

I want to design a sign and I like the font used on your plaque "Friends".
Anyone know what font was used?

Thank you for your help.
I like the GIMP suggestion since it is a shareware program and ScrollSaw Villiage has a tutorial on its use.
Importing and then saving as a "jpeg" file was simple and with a little learning curve I believe that modifications to the pattern will be also.
Again thanks

I am experiencing a little problem with PDF files. I like to save the actual pattern to a "jpeg" file. Then using Rapid resizer, I can make it any size I want. The only way I have been able to do it, is to print a hard copy then scan the hard copy into rapid resizer. Is there an easier way?
Also on the United States Army Veteran pattern, I would like to be able to change "Veteran" to "Active Duty" or "Retired" as these are differant than veteran. Any advice would be appreicated.
