Jerry,
I really like the patterns by Kathy Wise and I think the cougar pattern is an excellent choice. The best way to learn Intarsia is by jumping in and doing it. You'll find it to be very addictive and your first piece is where it all begins. Good luck!

RDATELLE,
I am humbled by your kind comments. Believe me I am still learning myself. If you want to learn how to do Intarsia you might want to check out www.intarsia.com by Judy Gale Roberts. She has a deal called "classroom in a tube" that will help you get started. Also, there are many talented people in this community which I'm sure will also help you get started. Brian Pardue is an outstanding Intarsia artist who just completed a massive project which can be seen in the Brag Forum. Good luck!

Intarsia / Cartoon Intarsia
« on: March 06, 2015, 10:47:38 am »
My granddaughter showed me this picture in her coloring book and asked me if I could make her an Intarsia for her bedroom wall. I didn't have a pattern so I had to freehand the image onto paper. I still have a ways to go before this is complete and I will post my progress toward completion. I have a pretty good idea which cartoon she will want next!

Marg,
You have done an excellent job on your first attempt! I sincerely hope that this won't be your last Intarsia project. I would love to watch you progress with additional pieces. Now that you've got your feet wet just take the plunge. It will open up a whole new world of wood art.

They say that whatever we choose to create reveals our true personality...what does this say about me? This pattern was designed by Judy Gale Roberts and when I saw it I just couldn't resist making it. Thanks for taking a look!

Excellent work. I like the detailing of swords as the shelf support. You put in a lot of delicate work on this project and it shows. I think you would be good at fret work.

You did a great job capturing the image of Bently. I especially like the detailing of the fur. You have an artistic eye!

Sir, you are master of your craft. I bet the members of your church will be in awe at how realistic it appears.

Now that is what you call "first class service". I have had the pleasure to talk with Ray in the past regarding a different question and have found him to be very knowledgeable about most things and a very kind person. Buying from Ray is not just another sale, but rather the beginning of a relationship.

Keith,
I think your sign will definitely turn some heads (no pun intended). I think as a newbie to scrolling you did very well, but it comes as no surprise because wood turning requires a steady hand as well. I think both forms compliment each other.

Marcel, what an appropriate verse for such a wonderful occasion. It's obvious that you expressed a lot of the verse's message in the time you spent in creating this beautiful gift. You did an excellent job in cutting out the letters and I'm sure they will be very grateful and impressed.

DW,
Thanks for the reply! I have yet to cut a name plaque such as the one you just completed and wasn't sure whether spirals are the blade of choice. I can see that when cutting a long piece such as this a spiral would be convenient. I would like to hear more input as to the pros and cons of using both spirals or flat blades, especially when cutting name plaques or even portraits.

DW,
Wow! What a wonderful personalized gift for your parents. The cutting on the letters is very clean and precise. Also, I really like the finish you chose. Did you use a spiral blade?

P.S. Hope you are planning a big celebration, what a milestone.
