Title: Herd of Horses
Post by: KarlB on April 26, 2015, 06:18:13 pm
In the past few weeks I've been cutting horse ornaments.  This is a Dirk Boelman design from a book called:  "Scroll saw for the first time".

My daughter wants to start a ministry to help lost and abused horses and children so I thought these would make great gifts for people who wanted to donate to her ministry.  I've got other designs and ideas as well for higher donations.

These are all stack cut and are hardwoods.  There is cherry, oak, cedar, alder and a species I don't know - but it looked good!

Hi Karl,

Those look great!  I cut lots of ornaments, and horses are always popular.  Your daughter is doing a great thing, and you too by helping her.

That is a lot of horses.  I kinda like them displayed like that.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

Great herd!  I agree with DW I really like them displayed like that.  Maybe mount them on a rough cut board or something.  I wish your daughter success with her endeavor.  It is a very worthy cause.

Hey Karl I know you have cut them as individuals for a purpose but if you glued them together the way you have them in the first photo it would make an amazing mural.  Sorry just a thought.  Great idea of your daughter and your gifts hope it all goes well.

Those turned out nice.  Cut a few more only add horns to them and you will have unicorns for those who fancy the mythical creature.

Nice job Karl. How many were you able to stack cut. They look kinda wide, maybe 1/2 inch.

The thicknesses are 1/4" or around that.

If it is harder wood (i.e. maple or oak) I usually stack 3 thick.  Softer woods I'll go 4 or even 5.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.
