Brag Forum / Another Challenge
« on: November 07, 2017, 08:48:38 pm »
In another forum I asked for and received 2 patterns of my daughters dog that have passed on. I originally thought to have just a wall plaque of these patterns, then I saw Steve's posting of the picture plaque frames and decided to combine the two.
Also note this is my first more detailed fret and it was a challenge, blade?, speed?, wood?, how much pushing? slow down, take your time, keep things under control. Well, I learned a lot and am thankful for the patterns (thanks TD), (thanks Steve)!!!! So here they are:

Gary, a #9 blade is fairly large and much harder to make a tight turn. Not sure what blade you need but you could try a smaller blade and it should turn much easier as it has a smaller kerf and less width.

My final $0.02 on tolerances - once you become accomplished (I'm still working on that) you should be able to cut just off the line or on the line (when you want and need to). Now to keep working on technique.

I have found that following a straight line is harder than curves, practice on both. My first suggestion is to slow down the feed rate to learn to let the blade cut without forcing it. Also practice with thicker woods 1/2" or 3/4" will also help, thinner woods are more difficult to maintain control. My $0.02!

OK, I think this will work thru photobucket. If you're interested in more and larger pictures here is the url to go see more pictures of the Wasa  http://s32.photobucket.com/user/wdolingh/library/Wasa?sort=2&page=1

copy and paste into your browser and once there you can look at the 8 pictures of the Wasa, either individually or as a slideshow.

I know I would like to see more pictures, and I'll bet others on the forum would also like to see them.  Can you post more?

I have some more pics, however the site requirements are fairly limited in size and I can't really show the images large enough to see the details clearly. I will look at another way to provide a link to the full sized images. If someone has already figured this out let me know.

About 20 some years ago I received a wooden model ship to build called the Wasa. It was a Swedish ship build in 1628 and had a long career of about a mile and a half. It was launched and sailed away, was hit by a gust of wind, tipped over and water rushed in though the gun ports and it sank. It was recovered in the early 1950's and is preserved in a museum in Stockholm. I started building it many years ago and put it on hold for several years and a move to Tennessee. About I year ago I became enthused enough to restart. This is to say I have completed her. Here are some pictures of her setting in her display case. It is about 44" long, 13" wide and 18" tall. Whew! Its done.

There are several pattern makers on Scroll Saw Village (http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/) that sometimes help. Just post a picture and ask for help.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: PS Wood Machines
« on: July 27, 2017, 10:24:20 pm »
I have a larger model of the PS Woods made by previous mfg Sakura. It is a solid saw, little vibration, bottom feeder. Its fairly simple and not much can go wrong. PS Woods has parts available for those that do wear out (I haven't experienced any except the belt which was old)

I would think that changing the speed would be seldom unless you frequently change wood thicknesses. Even so it is fairly easy and quick to make the change. If you mostly do fret work I would suggest you look for a top feeder.

Sorry for the lack of reply's. The stated limit is 320x240 pixels which is about 75kb in size, so you are being rejected because that is being exceeded. The easy way to reduce size is using paint (which should be on your computer). Just call it up, in upper left corner there is a drop down arrow, use that to see the menu, click on open, go select your image. Then use the  resize button (just right of the open button), make sure you are using the pixel sizes and type in either 320 or 240 into the correct box and hit enter. Save and use that to load into your message. Hope this helps.
