This is my special tree. It is a four foot artificial tree that I have decorated with ornaments from friends from around the world. It is one of the trees that I use to display ornaments during my shows.
It is sitting on a shelf at the middle landing of our staircase.

The Coffee Shop / Christmas Ornament Exchange
« on: December 02, 2012, 12:14:55 pm »
As we watch the ornaments coming in, I would like to thank Russ for setting up the exchange. It is a lot of fun to see all the beautiful ornaments people are receiving. Remember, this is not a competition! I always say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A lot of the folks here are newbies and have never done ornaments before. But they had the courage to participate. that's where the beauty lies. This is a wonderful little family, and am proud to be a member!

« on: November 22, 2012, 11:35:20 am »
Here in the U.S.A., we are celebrating Thanksgiving today. It's a day to celebrate what we are thankful for.
I am thankful that even though I am still unemployed, we still have enough money to have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with our little family.
I am thankful to Steve Good for creating this forum and to Russ for running it as smoothly as it has been.
I am grateful for all the friends I have here on the forum from all over the world!
I am thankful for having the opportunity to share my knowledge to all of you and in the workshop at Woodcraft.
So, what are you thankful for?

The Coffee Shop / Sorry GB
« on: October 23, 2012, 12:11:33 pm »
Hey GB, So sorry your ST. Louis Cardinals did not make it to the World Series. I'm not a Base Ball fan, so I don't care about the Giants even though they are a California team.
I know you are heart broken, but maybe next year :'(

The Coffee Shop / My apologies
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:28:24 am »
I'm sorry I have not been on much. I have been getting ready for the show season. My first show is this Sunday. A very large street fair in Thousand Oaks CA. The weather should be perfect!
I also have a demonstration on both Friday and Saturday at the Woodcraft store in Ventura CA. I will be cutting the little 3D reindeer's. I have about thirty blanks ready to go. If I run out of them, I have stacks of ornaments to cut! The store is having their annual Woodworking show with lots of specials and demonstrations. Basically, I will be selling DeWALT scroll saws!

The Coffee Shop / Christmas Ornament Exchange
« on: September 16, 2012, 10:54:03 pm »
This is for all the newbies. I personally invite you to sign up and participate in this years Christmas ornament exchange. This is not a competition! It is just a way to spread good will with the members here. Even if you have never cut an ornament before. This will be the best time to try it! I would be proud to receive someones very first made ornament! You don't have to design it, there are plenty of free ornament patterns out there. Steve has tons in his pattern catalog. All that is asked is that you do the best that you can do, and that will be great. Lets make this the best ornament exchange ever!

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Rounding the back corners of the blade
« on: September 01, 2012, 02:42:12 pm »
I pulled this trick out of mothballs. I am cutting a bunch of Steve's mini alarm clocks for the craft show season coming up: http://www.stevedgood.com/minialarmclock.pdf They require 3/4" thick wood to allow the clock to stand upright with the insert installed. There are some tight radius cuts for a #5 blade especially in hard woods like Red Oak, Maple, Walnut and Purpleheart. To keep from burning I am using clear packing tape on both sides of the blank, but still burning around the small ball on top of the bells of the clock. I decided to round off the back corners of the blade with a file designed for band saw blades: http://ptreeusa.com/band_saw_acc.htm#1746.
This stopped the burning and the blade lasted a lot longer too!
You can use sand paper wrapped around a hardwood block or a fine file.
