I was just looking at a piece of scroll work and the Idea struck me.
Has anyone ever used a mirror as a backer?
If so.
How well did it work out?

never tried it myself Gabby,but think it would work & look good tho.I'm going to try it sometime. just got to find a good supplier for them up this way.

I dont get out and about much any more, but I'm thinking a Dollar store might have some cheap.
A glass and window shop would probably custom cut one, but I haven't a clue how much it would cost.
A mirror from an old bathroom vanity could be salvaged and maybe even free, cut to size, glass cutters are cheap the kind with the little wheel, and scribe. Just thinking of options.

will there's no dollar store here where i live or glass store. i cut an old mirror one time and when you look in it everything looked wavy and over time what ever is inside the glass that makes a mirror all fell down it was like fine silver foil. but i did see somewhere in a woodcraft magazine you could buy cut able acrylic mirrors you buy them in sheets and cut the size and shape you want it. i can't seem to find the magazine anywhere.

Most likely cheaper than a glass outlet and a hell of a lot easier to CUT!
I HATE messing with glass almost as bad as the WASTE side of plumbing!

check with Lowes or Home Depot they may have the boxes of mirror tiles .... usually come in 12X12.

I know this is late but maybe it will be seen. I use mirrored acrylic graphic sign material that I get where I work. Any sign maker should be able to find it for you. The brand I use is called FDC.

Hi Gabby, we used to put glass or acrylic behind fretwork where I used to work and it is fine, only thing I would say is it can be a pain in the butt to cut. Also you will have to use an adhesive which will not remove the silvering from the back of the mirror if you intend laying the mirror into the frame. If you're fixing the wood to the face of the mirror, heavy duty double sided tape will do the job. The adhesive we used for the silvered side of the mirror was Evostik Mirror adhesive. I am quite sure you will have something similar on your side of the POND. Good luck from Scotland. RR

Thank you RR I have a stack of mirrors about 12" by 12", left over from a wedding held here on our property. Haven't come up with anything to use them on as yet, but they are in the back of my mind for the future. Your tips will come in handy.
