General Scroll Saw Talk / How to put finish on latest project
« on: February 26, 2015, 03:53:10 pm »
I just finished my latest project. It is the lab with duck in his mouth. I would like to put a light stain on it. It has so many veins and small cuts I am not sure how to do it.
I cut it out of 1/4 in. BB any suggestions would be appreciated.

General Scroll Saw Talk / wow!!!
« on: December 29, 2014, 09:22:28 pm »
I just picked up my "new to me scroll saw" today. It a RBI HAWK 220. It is not variable speed but that is alright. It is so quiet and smooth I am really excited.  I.will be upgrading the blade holders but other than that I am very satisfied.

I found it on Craigslist about 50 mi. from me. I cut a little on it when I got home and the dust blower works
real well. Looking forward to my next project which I will start tomorrow.

Big improvement over the Craftsman!!

General Scroll Saw Talk / spraying clear finish
« on: December 22, 2014, 10:26:41 pm »
I was thinking about trying to spray a clear finish on my projects instead of brushing on. If you spray on do you have to sand in between coats or just wait for it to dry and spray another coat on?

Thanks for any input and suggestions.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It was my first time cutting something with an angle bevel and I was a little nervous.
It seemed to turn out good, I think they will like them.

Thanks pd, it is working great. I have been making saw dust all.afternoon. I am definitely planning on the EX21 in the future.

It is cutting better and smoother than the craftsman.

General Scroll Saw Talk / new to me saw

Since my craftsman died I have been looking for a saw. I had my heart set on an EX21 but with Christmas coming I couldn't swng the price rght now.
I found a deal on a Dremel 1630, I tried it out and it ran smooth and quiet with very little vibration so I bought it. I needed one to finish up 3 Christmas presents. Just wondering if anyone has one of these or has used one? Any input would be appreciated.

The EX 21 is still in my future plans.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Update on my Craftsman
« on: November 25, 2014, 09:59:51 pm »
I posted a couple days ago about my Craftsman breaking down. I can get the parts from ereplacement parts but not in time to get my presents done.
I had my heart set on the EX 21 in the future but I found a Hawk 220 about 50 miles from me. It is on a stand with a light for $400. I have read a lot of good reviews on this saw. If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would appreciate it. I plan to go look at it Monday.

Thank all of you for your replies and input.

I have been cutting out Christmas presents for 3 weeks. I got 10 done and started on the last 4 today. I have  Craftsman 16 in. variable speed saw. It has vibrating pretty bad and today it got a lot worse. I broke 8 blades first thing this morning (I haven't broke that many in 2yrs). I took it apart and found bushing on lower arm wore out and the hole in the arm is wollered out also. I will call Sears in Springfield,Mo. in morning to see if they have parts for it.

I am going to buy a new saw in near future. The EX21 is what I have been looking at. Do any of you have any suggestions on this saw or a different one maybe.

Thanks,
George
