General Scroll Saw Talk / Need some advice
« on: December 13, 2012, 06:50:43 pm »
I am trying to build picture frames for my projects. I bought the Bessy strap clamp today and it doesn't work worth a hoot for me. I would appreciate input on what kind you use and how you like them.
Thanks

General Scroll Saw Talk / Picture Frames
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:08:06 pm »
I have made some Christmas present wall plaques out of 1/4 in Oak plywood. I want to put them in frames. I found some moulding at blue store I like. I can cut the miters no problem but I am not sure how attach the corners. Do you glue and brad nail, use flat  "L" brackets on each corner on back or how do you do it.

Please give me ur ideas
Thanks

General Scroll Saw Talk / Dewalt 788 question
« on: December 03, 2012, 07:45:43 pm »
I read a post on here about the older Dewalt made in Canada were better quality saws than the new ones. I am looking at replacing my Craftsman mainly because the blade tension is hard for me to set on it.
My question is do I need to look for older model Dewalt or go ahead with a new one?

General Scroll Saw Talk / Learned something new tonight..
« on: November 20, 2012, 09:17:21 pm »
I was sanding the imperfections out of some projects I did today. I don't have any mini files so my wife asked me if her emory board she uses on her nails would work?

I gave it a try and wow it worked great. One side was course and one was fine.
I trimmed one end very narrow with scissors to get in tight spots and it worked great.
Now I realize many of you already knew this and used it, but hey, 57 and still learning!!

I had seen a previous post about using Open Office Draw to do patterns for portrait scrolling. I have been messing with it for an hour and can't figure out how to do it.
Could someone offer me some advice.

Thanks,

General Scroll Saw Talk / Christms presents?
« on: November 15, 2012, 05:32:27 pm »
I am trying to make some Christmas presents and the pattern calls for 1/2" stock. I am new to this and was needing some advice on which blade you use for 1/2" it will either be Aromatice cedar or Red Oak.
I think the Cedar will be easier to to cut and work with but not sure.

I want to make some Christmas presents and the pattern calls for 1/2" stock and I need it 7" wide. My question is if I use Aromatic Cedar will 1/2 x 7 board be to thin and cup on me?

The pattern is Steve's pattern for the Bass key caddy
Thanks,

General Scroll Saw Talk / How in the world.....
« on: November 08, 2012, 06:29:04 pm »
Do you cut out the inside holes on very small designs? The holes are so tiny my blade is bigger than they are much less drilling a hole to insert blade in.

Maybe I had better stick with bigger patterns.  LOL

Introduce Yourself. / New to scrolling
« on: November 04, 2012, 08:47:54 pm »
Hello eveyone from Mt. Home, Arkansas!! I have been into woodworking for several years now, but have never tried scrolling. I just got scroll saw today (entry level) and am excited to try it.
I have made cabinets, china hutches, entertainment centers, lawn and patio furniture and so on.
I have already got advice and info from you all and have read hundreds of the post on here already.
What a great place looking forward to visiting with you and asking a lot questions since I am new to this.
Any one that might live close to me I would like to meet and maybe get some lessons and advice from.

General Scroll Saw Talk / wood for scroll saw work
« on: November 04, 2012, 06:39:36 pm »
Hello everyone, I am new here but I have been into woodworking for several years. I have never done any scroll saw work but I got me a scroll saw today and am going to give it a try.
I was wondering where u get 1/4 " plywood to make stuff out of. Maybe Lowe's or Homedepot has it I haven't checked yet.
I have seen it for sale from woodcraft stores on net but would like to buy it local if possible.
Thanks,
George S.
