Brag Forum / 3D relief scroll work - Karl Taylor inspired
« on: April 27, 2020, 09:57:24 am »
Thanks (I think) to Steve & Karl for a different take on scroll work.  I have mixed emotions about the artists Steve showcases on his blog.  They make me want to copy and then I find out how much work (and LOT of practice) is involved.

Anyway, Steve highlighted Karl's work recently and my wife saw it (my mistake).  She found a fabric print and wanted it for our new great grand child.

After a lot of work & errors, here is my attempt at 3D scroll work. The pic does not show all the relief cuts involved.

 Hope you like it.

Sorry folks, I can't get the pic right side up. Even tried attaching a upside down pic.

Brag Forum / Embroidery work on a scroll saw
« on: October 17, 2019, 07:11:36 am »
My recently completed project.  While accompanying my wife on a quilt shops tour I ran across a CD for a computerized embordering machine.
Of course I had to try it on the scroll saw.  Little did I know what I was getting into.

The pattern is by OESD which has a large selection, some in 2D and some in 3D.  These look like they have SS potential with a little work.  I had to modify this project for plywood strength and cutting laziness.  I found out 1/8" plywood "DON'T" bend so the curved portion is two layers of pre-glued 3" edgebanding, cut, bent, then glued.

I just remembered I had another pic. Here is view from top, better pic of mounting.
This was before I added the support bars. I also have clear plastic cover over the switches.  Didn't feel like it was worth it  to tear into them to make one sw control both lights.

They are Janslo 3.859.41 now 12.99@.  I took the base off and mounted to a alum rt angle  bar.   Diff colors are available if you want to match the saw.

This is a stereo light I added to my Delta 40-694 saw.  The lights were from IKEA (about $10@).  There is a little shadow because one light is stronger than the other.  The thin brace I had to add for support because even with the little vibration one would sag (weak coils ?) so I added to both, it sill allows any adjustment needed.
I removed the blade storage on the top which wasn't used anyway.

Brag Forum / Dragon Box
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:55:40 pm »
This is a  dragon box (with slight modifications from Steve's design) I made for our granddaughter (a dragon fan).

The checkering on the side is supposed to represent dragon scales. The box is 1 7/8" solid walnut (which barely fit in the saw) and the top/bottom is aspen.
The finish is Tru-oil which I really like on hard woods.
