This Johnny Cash pattern was so easy just 14 cuts finished in about an hour that includes putting the pattern on the ply and sanding. Easy.  Pattern is by J Lawson.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Just wondering
« on: April 28, 2014, 02:50:29 am »
Just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else.  A couple of weeks ago I went to buy some more ply and the guy gave me a good deal on a sheet of Poplar ply 2 or 3mm.  Anyway I started the Steve McQueen portrait today and OMG I have never had so many problems before.  It was as if the ply had a mind of its own. First it would not glide in the scroll saw so had the stop to polish it, then It was as if I could not control the blade if I wanted a thin cut I ended up with a thick one. I tried about 4 different types of blades of different sizes (no spirals) but no that did not help.  The more I did the worse it got.  I have been scrolling for about 15 years, I have not shied away from intricate patterns in fact I think there as only ever been one pattern that I have not complete but I would do it now without batting an eyelid. But I have never come across ply with a mind of its own.  I slow the speed down I even made it faster. In the end I gave up and found another piece of ply and I am having no problems at all. Boy am I confused.

Did these yesterday.  One order, 3 Elvis's, stack cut, sanded, framed and ready for delivery.  Can't get any easier than that, easy money.

I don't want to offend any one with this question but I have never thought about it before.  I have always thought the The US Marines and the US Navy were linked somehow.  :-[ Could someone tell me the difference between the 2 please? ???

Brag Forum / Step Grandaughters
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:53:47 pm »
While we had the week of 40Celsius + days I got bored, so I got out the patterns that were done for me of my step granddaughters and was looking at them.  After a while I decided to see if I could marry them together and here is what I came up with.  This is the sticker that I put on the backs to show that the patterns were made by 2 people.  Hope you don't mind Nick and Don.

The Coffee Shop / So very sad
« on: February 13, 2014, 12:34:45 am »
Last night at 6.30 an 11 year old boy was just finished his cricket training when he was attacked by his father.  He was beaten about the head with the cricket bat and then stabbed.  He died at the scene.  The police tried unsuccessfully to disarm the man and he was subsequently shot in the chest.  He later died in hospital of the gun shot wounds.  All of this happened because of a custody dispute with the mother.  I would like to know what he thought he would gain by doing such an horrific thing to HIS child.  It is bad enough when it is done by a stranger but his own Father that is unthinkable.  And this all happened less than a 10 min drive from my home.  His home town, his school, his family and the people in the surrounding towns are all in deep shock.  Until last year we had never had a 'Murder' committed around here and now we have had 2, I hate to think what will happen next.  The boys name is Luke and I would appreciate you all saying a prayer for his mother who is devastated.

The Coffee Shop / Year of records
« on: February 12, 2014, 01:01:49 am »
Well it seems to be the year for records.  America coldest in how many years.  UK most rain in over 200 and Victoria Australia the most days over 40c in over 100 years.

The Coffee Shop / Bush Fires
« on: February 11, 2014, 01:22:45 am »
We are in the middle of bush fire season and boy do we have some fires.  I woke at 2.00am to find my bedroom full of smoke and there is not a fire within 50 kilometres of here.  We are getting the smoke from 3 fronts.  One is an open cut coal mine on fire and that could smoke for weeks.  Being outside is like being in a light fog, its awful, but better this than being in the middle of a fire.  I feel for those that have lost their homes.  My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

Do any of you outside of the USA subscribe to SSW&C magazine?  Have you received the latest issue yet?  I have been waiting but its not arrived yet so I was wondering if I am just to eager or if I have been forgotten. :)

The Coffee Shop / Heat and Fire
« on: January 17, 2014, 12:15:36 am »
We have had 4 days in a row of between 40 and 45 degree Celsius. That?s between 102 and 112 F roughly.  We have set a record apparently.  So I have hardly been out side since 10.30 Tuesday morning.  Too darn hot to go into my metal garage to work that?s for sure.  We have 21 fires in a 40 kilometre radius from me at the moment and 3 within a 3 klms of me.  We have strong winds too that are not helping the firefighters.  Hopefully the cool change that has been forecast will arrive early to help the firefighters; you have to feel for those guys in these conditions.

Hi everyone.  I cut this yesterday.  It is a 80th birthday gift for a lovely fellow that lives across from me.  Slim Dusty is a Country Singer, his most famous songs are "A Pub With No Beer" and "I'd Rather Have A Beer With Duncan".  I'm sure if you look him up on youtube you will find him.
