I found this in a shed that was being cleaned out. I think it is a burl, but not sure what type of wood it is. Each knob is about 6 inches in diameter. Any suggestions?
-
I'd guess it's a softwood, and with my limited exposure, scots pine, or similar.

Hi Clyde, could these be THUYA burls. Unusual to see them connected with a stem. Just an idea?????.

The most common tree in these parts is spruce. It is light in weight. the bark is very flakey and I don't know how long it was laying in the guys shed. I suspect spruce or pine.

A woodworker has finally grew a set... see what I did there. :)

My first thoughts as well. I would like to keep them intact. Would I slice off the front and back portions, What would I put into each one. The possibilities are endless. :-\ :-\ ::) suggestions please.

Looks a little like a barbell. If you can find another, you would have a matching set to work out with?
-
ROF-LOL I would keep them as they are. That way you will have a set when your spouse takes yours ;D
Some friends gave me a small bag with small bearings in it. FRIENDS ::)
