General Scroll Saw Talk / Type of wood for ornaments?

What is the best type of wood to use for ornaments?  Hardwood or plywood? Where is the best source for your choice?

I bought a clip simular to what you are describing at HF that clips on the bill of a ball cap that works great.  Flip it down when sawing and up when I look away from saw.  Only a few $s don't remember the price, been using it for over 4 yrs.

I always slow the saw down per feel and type of material.  If you cut acrylic at a high speed it will just melt the blade thru the plastic and refuse on the back sid of the blade.  Also less vibration at slower speeds so you feel more refreshe when you have been cutting a long time.

I made this mini router table for my rotery tool several years ago and use it all the time.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dust Collection
« on: August 01, 2010, 08:10:13 am »
I went to the plumbing section at the big box store and got a metal ac vent that I screwed to the bottom of my table.  My dust collector (with an adpter) fit into the back of it so everything that fall under the saw is sucked away.  For this reason I never use reverse tooth blades as I want all the sawdust under the table.

This is a portrait that I did a while back.  I sanded the glass before cutting to give it a smoked look.

Janet, I am the one that sent you the pic of my Its 5Oclock Somewhere clock.

I did not get the correspondence directly from the lawyer.  I have my work displayed on my etsyshop  pawpawsworkshop.etsy.com.  Etsy administration receive notice from the lawyer that Jimmy Buffet Enterprise along with the resturant chain Cheeseburger in Paradise owns the copy right to the phrase "Its 5 Oclock Somewhere"  and demanded that Etsy.com take my clock off their web site which they did and then notified me that I was in violation of Etsy rules by posting copy right material.

Depends on the project.  Mostly I use wipe on tung oil or clear spray.
