Stack Cutting

One of the patterns I want to cut calls for 1" thick walnut.  I only have 1/2" thick.  My question is do you think the results would be ok if I stack cut the 2  1/2" pieces together?

The 2 pieces together would produce a circular line and I hate those darn glue lines.  I hope that if I sand it to 400 grit the lines won't show.

Your thoughts?

Of course you can.  I would do a glue up of the two pieces.  Then it's not a stack cut, it's just a piece of 1" walnut.  You shouldn't have to worry about the line.  Walnut sands wonderfully and should not show.

I agree. Just put a lot of clamp pressure on the pieces when glue up and the glue line wont even be recognizable. Make sure your grain lines up and there ya go! You may realize that its a laminate blank but I guarantee others wont..

I do that all the time. For example....Need a 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" piece for a 3-D cutting? Glue two pieces of 1" x 2" lumber (really 3/4" x 1-1/2")  together, trim to length and GET BUSY!! The glue line is visible only to you and even then, only in certain areas of the piece.

gluing it all together worked perfectly! I'll use this method again.
