General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Scrolling with my GRANDCHILDREN
« on: March 04, 2018, 10:03:15 pm »
Lots of good advice and suggestions from all ya'll about scrolling with my grandkids. I was supposed to happen this past weekend. Well, other things happened. The parents bought a playscape so instead of scrolling, we assembled the playscape.

I will get another chance in about two or three weeks. If it happens, I'll share the results.

Thanks for all the great advice.
I'll get to see one set of grandkids next weekend and we'll see how it goes. I'll give you a full report.
(We will be sure to wear shoes, but not mittens.)

What safety precautions would you take if you are introducing your young grandchildren to the joys of scrolling? What suggestions do you have to help make this a successful endeavor? Pattern suggestions or better yet, examples???? Wood, what variety, what thickness??? All suggestions and advice will be appreciated.

I have two granddaughters, one is 7 and the other is 5. Just for the record, I also have two grandsons aged 2 and 4, probably just a little too young, but not for long.

Yeah, what Larry said. Works well for me, too.
Just finished 6 crosses, all Sheila Landry designs, all in cherry and didn't have any problems.
I love Sheila, and I am not unfond off Keith. (That is a line from "King of the Hill")

I stuck with Flying Dutchman - dance with the one that brung ya.
Just last week I bought 432 FD blades from Mike's for $93.72 which includes shipping - comes to 21.7 cents per blade. They arrived in 4 days. They were all FDUR in 5 different sizes (36 dozen, 3 gross) which qualified for the gross pricing at $2.80/doz which totaled $100.80 which qualified for the 10% Off (-$10.08) plus $3 shipping and no tax.
When I win that Bear Woods contest, I give the Pegas a try.
I didn't buy any golf balls.
What's with all those yellow faces above the message box???
 :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8)  ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(
And why do they put those symbols and letters on my page when i click on them??? ???

Thanks for all of your input. Still not sure what blades I'm going to buy, but I now know about golf balls.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Comparison of Pegas to Flying Dutchman blades
« on: January 17, 2018, 11:55:32 am »
The last time I bought scroll saw blades was from Mike’s Workshop just before he sold out to The Wooden Teddy Bear. I stocked up big time. I miss Mike.
I am just about out of the Flying Dutchman and want to try the Pegas blades. I looked at all of the different types of blades they offer and it is more than my geezer brain can process.
Question #1:  So, which Pegas blades are comparable to the Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse (FDUR)? Mostly I use #3 and #5 but also like to have on hand some #1, #7, and  #9.
Question #2:  I like the crimped end on the FD so I know which way is up. How can you tell which way is up on the Pegas blades?
Thanks

Back in the day when I was still young and stupid – I got over being young, still working on the other – I had a tendency to push the blade past its limit and ruined more than a few projects. Now I use a timer set to 20 minutes for most wood and 15 for the hard stuff. I have gone as low as 10 a few times. When the timer goes off, I change the blade and make a tally mark somewhere on the pattern – helps me keep track of how long I spend on a project which helps me determine what I should charge if I ever decide to sell my handiwork.
That’s my two cents worth (actually I think it’s worth at least a nickel).
What's with all those goofy little yellow circles up there whenever I do this reply thing?

Chinese Zodiac Patterns
I’ll start with the background story.
It started in the 80’s with our three children – the oldest has very blond hair, the second has brown hair and the youngest has red hair. (genetics, not postman) We received comments from many people and my flippant answer was “we were going to try for one with black hair, but I read that every fourth child born in the world is Chinese, so we decided to stop at three.”
Fast forward about 20 years to our daughter’s wedding. The young man she married has very black hair. And here is the part that proves to me that there is a God and that He has a sense of humor. The young man is Chinese.
I am searching for patterns of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac to give as gifts for my son-in-law’s family in China.
The animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.
I have found suitable patterns for the dragon and the goat. There are also many tiger patterns out there, but most of the rest are eluding me.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Tried Seyco again just now - got the error message. So, it is probably not your computer.

I've got another one:
Beer for Breakfast! You can't drink all day if you don't get started early.
