I had a serious health scare Friday.  Upon arriving home from the hospital yesterday I have heard from people I haven't heard from in years since I moved to the state of Indiana.  Listening to their voices again was seriously good medicine.  I know we get on with our lives as time goes and we don't have the time or we forget those we have known.  Please people if not for the season or anything else get a hold of someone and let them know you were thinking them.  And for god's sake let your family that you love them.  My wife is a tuff young bird but seeing her brake down in the E.R.  well....I was thinking more about her well being than mine.  So with that, to everyone that frequents this blog,  I truly wish a Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the best in the coming year

I can remember word for word my favorite songs from the 80's, but I can't remember what I just walked into the kitchen for.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: hello from Colorado

Hi Mark,
I have a Delta 40-694.  The finance minister won't let me get anything better.  But that being said she also says if I start making money at it then I can buy what I want.  I started with a cheesy brand I got from a hardware store, got hooked and jumped to the Delta.  For what I do which has so far been gifts for the kids, grand kids, and the seniors at the retirement home my wife works The delta hasn't failed me yet.  Like the Toneman says buy good blades.  I have several packs of hardware store brand but use them only in a pinch because I forgot to order more from a blade supplier.  Buy the way in case you haven't already noticed, this is the best place to get advice. and see what other's have done.  I am always amazed at the talent here.

Hello Mark;
I am a native from Longmont Colorado am now living in Indiana.  Living here due to wife's elderly folks.  I started scrolling a few years ago but haven't had much garage time this year.  Been getting the garage and house ready for retirement.  Welcome to the forum, ask questions and show us some stuff.  I have learned a lot of tips and tricks here and the people are talented and amaze me with the things they cut.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Nativity material ?

I have used Ocooch hardwoods several times and have always been happy with them.  If you need, you can also request a specific thickness of wood to be planed to.  Just email them to get the price and usually they reply quickly.

Ok this is more of a dummy asking what is probably a simply answered question.  Does PAYPAL have fee of any sort for signing up?  I need to order some stuff and a PAYPAL account is required and since I am not a mental giant when it comes to computers, a little help would be really great before I dive in.

Thanks

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Dull Blade Question
« on: December 29, 2017, 07:36:20 am »
I'll use a dull blade to cut down the size of my material then when my pieces are smaller and easier to manage then I'll switch to a new blade to start cutting out my patterns.  Don't know if it saves me anything or not

The Coffee Shop / Smiling Faces
« on: December 22, 2017, 08:13:08 am »
The last several of years I have cut Christmas ornaments for the kids and grand kids.  Never have I made a dime for anything I have cut.  I just do it for something to do.  The last several years I have made many many ornaments from Shelia Landry and Sue Mey for my wife to take into  the retirement home she works at.  This year it was sleds from Miss Landry and snowglobes from Sue Mey.  My wife says "The smiles on those peoples faces was worth more than the cost and time to make everything"  She's been kind of down the past couple of weeks because of her dad's health.  So she was in a pretty good mood last night when she got home from work.  So to that, Merry Christmas everyone.

Another item to check is how many teeth your blade has to it.  Can't recall off the top of my head but I found a chart that gives you an approximate count of teeth your blade should have according to the thickness of the wood you are cutting.  Two inches is about the limits of most scroll saws and I would guess about a number 7 or 9 blade with soft wood.  Also I have had luck turning up the saw speed and slowing your feed rate with thicker woods.

Introduce Yourself. / Re: Dewalt vs. Delta Scroll Saw
« on: October 14, 2017, 11:53:59 am »
I have that very same Delta for about 3 years now and have not had any problems with it.  The Dewalt I have never used but From the postings here, there is a Type 1(the older version) and the Type 2(the newer version).  A lot of people here have had both and could speak of the differences between the two versions of Dewalts.  But.. I like my Delta and so far so good.  Welcome to the forum by the way and the best bunch of people are here to answer any questions and offer help.  I have learned a lot by just reading then cutting wood, good luck

I have been following your posts about your motor trouble.  I had the same troubles with my table saw motor a few years ago.  Decided to just get a new motor and quit beating my head against the wall as to the next step I should take.  Good luck with the one and be sure to show us some of the results.
