General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Cutting Plexiglass
« on: October 20, 2018, 01:42:51 am »
Mark,
A lot of consideration must be given as to how thick this plexi is going to be and what speed you are going to be cutting at.  The thicker the plexi the more it will need to have the kerf cleared.  They make blades that are for this purpose and they clear the cut plastic from the kerf so that the cut does not weld itself back together as you cut it.  That said using any of the blades with the ultra reverse - that is blades with some of the teeth facing the other way - will tend to promote this self healing of the cut.  Using a blade that only cuts in one direction and does not have too many teeth and that will allow the kerf to be cleared and setting the cutting speed are all important items.  Look for blades that allow you to check off most if not all of the points listed and you should be ok.  Experimentation is recommended though.

There are several out there that say that they accept stain but it has been my experience that there is a significant difference between the wood that does not have any glue squeeze out and that which does not.  One of the ways I have been able to avoid that is to stain area where I am going to be gluing and use a clear glue when I do glue, that or spend time doing a through clean up of an squeeze out.

I agree with most of what folks are saying, however Microsoft has a ways to go as their OS while getting better is still not what it should be.  Neither is Apple which is nothing more than UNIX with a User Interface.  There are better ways to handle software and hardware out there being developed that do not have either of the big 2 companies ( Microsoft and Apple ) inside.  More than anything is to keep your system patched, and protected.  It does not hurt to have a bit of room for RAM upgrades either.  The more you make the unit solid state - IE nothing is spinning to get information the better, as well.

The Coffee Shop / Re: Paypal

Bill,
I have used paypal since its inception.  Here is an excerpt from their site -

There's no charge to open a PayPal account and to transfer money from your bank account to your PayPal account. There is also no charge to purchase items using your PayPal account.

There are fees in other cases, such as:

Receiving payments for goods and services.
Receiving payments from friends and family made using a debit or credit card.
Receiving payments from people in other countries.
For more information about fees, see the PayPal User Agreement or fee matrix.

These fees are generally small and in my opinion well worth the services.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: No Sanding
« on: July 11, 2018, 04:42:16 pm »
Until I actually see that being the truth It has been my experience that when working in wood you HAVE to sand or your work is in my opinion not finished.  Saws cut wood and leave burrs of wood that have to be removed.  Finishes applied that need to be sanded before the next coat.  That kind of thing.  I have met folks that have done work and not sanded it and to me it looks on par with the stuff you get out of China, unfinished. Hehe but that is just me.
