General Scroll Saw Talk / Which Glue
« on: December 03, 2017, 12:04:33 pm »
Greetings,
I am working on some "Monogram Swivel Top Boxes" Sheila Landry's design and started to think (big trouble for me)
why cant I take four pieces of 1/4" and glue them together to get the one" thick piece but alternate woods, Oak, Walnut, Cherry, Maple...
so there is a contrast. My question would be which glue to use so when it is cut you will not see it also which one does not interfere with finishes?
At present I am using Brazilian Cherry for the sides and Canary Wood for the top and bottom.

To all the talented pattern designers here.
For the most basic of patterns which is better Gimp or Inkscape?
I cut fretwork and would like to try my luck at making some of my own patterns, Either by free modified clipart or what ever rattles around in my gray matter.
Just birds, animals both wild and domestic a few landscape is what I would like to try. And convert some  photos of are camping trips into patterns.
Thank you very much.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / PS Wood Machines
« on: July 27, 2017, 10:56:25 am »
Hello,
Does anyone own or have used the PS 14" Scroll Saw?
I am looking to upgrade to better quality not necessarily size. I currently have a 18" Porter Cable which is ok, but I want something easier to operate and maintain. Most of my cutting is smaller fret work 4x4" to maybe 8x10". Once in a while compound cuts.
I think the 14" would fit my needs. Other saws I am looking at include Hawk Seyco Hegner but I already have some information on them,
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

All thoughts and input is appreciated.

Introduce Yourself. / Hello from Colorado
« on: November 14, 2015, 07:08:10 pm »
Greetings everyone
My name is Mark and for 20 years I built custom cabinets. I was all in a days work. I am done with that and have moved on.
Now it is more enjoyable to do all the things I had to do. I have wanted a scroll saw for a long time and today my wife surprised me with a new Porter Cable 18" Early Christmas present. I look forward to learning many new things while here.
Thank You
Mark
