Brag Forum / Another Challenge
« on: November 07, 2017, 08:48:38 pm »
In another forum I asked for and received 2 patterns of my daughters dog that have passed on. I originally thought to have just a wall plaque of these patterns, then I saw Steve's posting of the picture plaque frames and decided to combine the two.
Also note this is my first more detailed fret and it was a challenge, blade?, speed?, wood?, how much pushing? slow down, take your time, keep things under control. Well, I learned a lot and am thankful for the patterns (thanks TD), (thanks Steve)!!!! So here they are:

Brag Forum / After 20 years, its done!
« on: October 14, 2017, 07:58:56 pm »
About 20 some years ago I received a wooden model ship to build called the Wasa. It was a Swedish ship build in 1628 and had a long career of about a mile and a half. It was launched and sailed away, was hit by a gust of wind, tipped over and water rushed in though the gun ports and it sank. It was recovered in the early 1950's and is preserved in a museum in Stockholm. I started building it many years ago and put it on hold for several years and a move to Tennessee. About I year ago I became enthused enough to restart. This is to say I have completed her. Here are some pictures of her setting in her display case. It is about 44" long, 13" wide and 18" tall. Whew! Its done.

Brag Forum / Something Different to Scroll
« on: November 20, 2016, 12:15:51 am »
I started a model of the Swedish Ship Wasa about 15-18 years ago, placed it on hold for 10-12 years and recently started again. I now have the deck and hull almost complete. There are about 1000 parts so far assembled. I still have the masts, spars, deadeyes, pulleys, sheaves, standing and running rigging and all the ornamental details to do. That's another 1000 parts, so I'm about half done. The finished model will be about 32" long, 18" high and 9" deep.

So scrolling is very useful in constructing many of the parts. However its a different style as some of the material is  only 1/32" thick (0.03" or 0.8mm). And some of the parts are pretty small. The first picture is the Wasa as it is today. The second picture shows the small parts I have to scroll as compared to a dime. These are also 1/32" thick. I have had to adapt to very slow speeds, absolute zero clearance table top, careful slow feeding and learning how to cut fragile, small pieces, all the while keeping fingers just clear of the blade. It has been and continues to be an interesting experience.

« on: November 02, 2010, 03:55:37 pm »
I just received an email purported to be from dhl the delivery company about a package they couldn't deliver. They wanted me to open an attachment. Sounded bogus to me so I googled and found this message from dhl about this virus  http://www.dhl.com/en/about_us/new_virus.html
Don't open the attachment, it is a virus.
