The Coffee Shop / Christmas Ornament Exchange
« on: August 14, 2018, 03:15:14 am »
I have been on and off for the past few years. It has been hard to work on my saw as much as  I like. Between work, school, and life...anyway, I was wondering if we are going to do an ornament exchange this year? I sure would like to get in on it if there is a group doing this. Please let me know.

My sister loves Dragons. Our schedules have been off over the past month. I made her this dragon and globe from a Steve Good pattern (Thanks Steve  :) ).

This is made from Cherry. I used Teak Oil on it. It still is a bit wet in the picture but the oil will soak in over night. I think it turned out pretty good. I give it to my sister tomorrow.

I am thinking about using resin to fill in holes in scroll art. Has anyone done this and if so, what is your best advice?

If anyone hears of an event in Phoenix that would be great. I live in Glendale. Love my work, but don't meet many people in the art of it all.

« on: December 30, 2017, 02:39:10 am »
Now and then I pop in. So many new people and still many of my old friends. Hope you all are doing well with health, had a Merry Christmas, and blessings on a new year.  Keep on scrolling and keep on posting. I am working on making more posts in this new year. That means making more projects. This Christmas I made 6 new projects. Looking forward to seeing posts from all my friends on here.

I made these out of Chakte Viga. It is a South American wood. Very similar to Padauk. Love working with this wood.

Intarsia / Christmas Angel
« on: December 30, 2017, 02:15:14 am »
I made this for my wife this year. Got the patter from Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts Magazine. This is probably one of my better Intarsia projects to date. I really enjoyed making this.

The Coffee Shop / Hello all
« on: March 11, 2017, 04:20:33 am »
It has been some time since I have found time to get back to this group. I have been dealing with a lot this past year or so. Work, helping an elderly mother, working on a masters degree, and  some poor health along the way. Hopefully it wont be so long before I come back. I am working on getting back to some scroll work. Maybe I will have some things to post soon. Look forward to meeting new people and hoping to see some former friends still on here.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Local Woodworking Contest
« on: August 13, 2016, 05:06:42 am »
Here in Phoenix, one of our local wood stores is hosting a contest. It is for trays, platters, and trivets. I am looking to design a tray or platter using an inlay of maple (fall leaves). I am thinking of making them with padauk and yellow satin. Not sure how to make the platter or tray. If anyone has suggestions I am open to them. I am up for this challenge and have until November to enter it.

Brag Forum / Some Christmas Projects
« on: December 26, 2015, 01:52:24 am »
I finally got my shop up and running. It has been 5 months since I moved and have not been able to get things situated. So, Christmas Eve I was having some fun. Made a Dragon for my sister and a Merry Christmas Cross for my brother.

Today I got $100 gift card to Woodworkers Source. So, I am ready to start back up on making some nice things.

Merry Christmas all.

Intarsia / Intarsia Video
« on: October 10, 2015, 06:57:16 pm »
I would love to see a good video on cutting intarsia. I have done a few projects but no matter how good I cut my pieces do not fit as nice as some of what I see on here. To see someone cutting different woods that fit perfectly together with some advice on this process would be super.

The Coffee Shop / Life downs and ups
« on: July 25, 2015, 01:13:56 pm »
I have not been on the forum in quite some time. This past few years has been pretty hard on my family. I have spent a lot of the past 2 years either unemployed or underemployed. Dedicated some time this past year towards studying for Computer IT Certification, took some courses and need to test for the Certification. Things were starting to look up and then my wife and I got a notice that we had to move from our rented house. The owner wanted it for his mother. We were told by the end of July to be moved out. That hit us hard, but God is good and had a better plan. We found a much better house to rent. It has 2 extra rooms which we will be leasing to a good friend who was also in need of a place to stay. While moving I sent out 3 emails to 3 different schools in the area. 2 days later I was hired by one of them. So, I am fully employed and living in a better house. While life had me down for so long....I am moving up rather fast. It is my hope that once I get settled in and my garage is empty of boxes I can set up shop and get back to making some things.

The Coffee Shop / Checking In
« on: February 17, 2015, 03:00:29 am »
Hey to all my scroll saw family. I have not been on much since Christmas. Been a real hard start of a year. My health has been like a roller coaster. Seems like when I am about to feel well I end up feeling bad again. Been fighting this for months.

Also not able to work too much in my shop. On top of respiratory problems I am still working on learning IT for my Certification. When not studying I am working a part time job at a Christian Care for Kids center.  Hope to get a day in the shop before March 3rd. That is my wife's birthday and I really wanted to make her something.

Anyway, hope everyone else is having a good start of the year and doing well. I will be back on a bit more often if I can. And if I do get out in the shop I will be sure to post pictures.

Ask Steve a question. / Profile Pictures
« on: December 26, 2014, 02:59:50 am »
Steve,

First of all, thank you for all you do on this site. I love the community you create for us scroll saw workers. Also, hope you had a Merry Christmas.

My question is on the pictures we upload for our profile it seems to distort them a lot or not put them in proper orientation. Is there some secret to making this right?

Thanks,

Troy
