Ask Steve a question. / Hand cut fret saw
« on: June 22, 2017, 05:22:38 pm »
Saw your daily post with links to hand fret work equipment.  If I'm not mistaken only pin type blades work will work, meaning larger entry hole. The old timers really had it hard.
I'm enclosing a photo of an old coping saw I made Mike Moorlach as a gag. I hot melted the electric cord into the handle.  Cheers  Brian

Just finished this 10 year old pattern. No - while it seemed to take forever - with the cold shop weather etc it took about 3 months. PS - the frog worked out scale wise so I added it. It was cut by FD Mike 2-3 years ago. Thanks for looking. Cheers Brian

General Scroll Saw Talk / Hearing protection
« on: January 22, 2017, 03:19:54 pm »
I like to listen to music when I scroll but the problem is the competing noise from my shop vac & the scroll saw itself. I've had my eye on ear protection which allows for both protection and music. Normally in the $77 plus price range, I haven't taken the plunge.  HOWEVER, Rockler.com ran a special after the first of the year and again today for "work tunes digital tune/MP3 head set (#25873) for 29.99 plus 7.99 shipping. I bought mine Dec.'16 and think they're GREAT.  I haven't hooked up my MP3 to it yet. MP3 player not included. They do included the required cable though. If this is of interest check them out.  Cheers Brian

Pattern Requests. / Way of the Cross Pattern
« on: January 12, 2017, 06:11:46 pm »
One of our US supply houses had a "way of the cross" pattern made of 3 1/3" sq maple stations with 2 "cross" versions for the backing.  I've admired it very time I received their new catalog, however, now that I have a real purpose for making it -it's gone. I keep most supply catalogs until a newer one comes out, but I think it's gone- period.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks in advance. Cheers Brian

Brag Forum / A Good (Steve) Halloween
« on: October 31, 2016, 01:19:01 pm »
Thanks again to Steve I'm ready for Halloween.  Just finished the Coffin in time to add it to my "Steve decorations".  They're all out & ready for the kids. Haven't figured out just where to put the coffin - I don't want him to be "one of the walking dead" and leave.  ;)  Thanks for looking. Cheers Brian

The Coffee Shop / Table saw tech. Help!
« on: July 12, 2016, 07:18:45 pm »
I have some small boxes with scroll sawn lids - I'd like to make. The scrolling - no problem. My table saw is the question. I'm to grove the six separate sides to receive the top for the lid and the six sides for the bottom. My problem is setting the height of my datto. After doing test runs and I restart my saw the blade desires to pick a new height. I can't find any adjustment or knob to secure my setting.  Any advice? Thanks Brian

Brag Forum / Batter up
« on: May 01, 2016, 06:31:12 pm »
Found this old pattern and thought it would be fun particularly since I have an assortment of ball caps. It's 3/4" popular with minwax golden oak stain. It holds 5 caps - I really should make about 3 more. :) I do want you other Baseball followers to take special note of the cap pictured. I moved from outside Chicago 22 years ago but I'm still a fair weathered Cubby fan. Hope springs eternal. As a side note, I worried about cutting with only 21" deep on my Hawk and never thought about having to stand away from saw table so far that I could hardly see the lines of reach the controls (30" or 76.2cm).  Thanks for looking  Cheers Brian

Brag Forum / Filet & Release
« on: March 23, 2016, 07:41:45 pm »
Just finished one of Steve's Patterns for my brother-in-law.  He like to catch & release - I, on the other hand, like to filet. He and my sister like to RV and they take their two dogs along.  So i mounted Steve' design on a cedar board and made two "gang hooks" to hold the dog leashes. I've included a view of the back to show the mounting detail for RV  motion.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers  Brian

Brag Forum / Dutch Windmill Clock
« on: February 07, 2016, 04:56:47 pm »
Finally finished my Dutch Windmill clock.  Basic design by P. Spielman & D. Boelman with some alteration.  This is one of those projects I started and changed as I progressed.  Can't help but put my two cents in as I work a design.  The Dutch couple is what started me on the whole endeavor. Thanks for looking. Cheers Brian

Pattern Requests. / Owl word art
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:29:38 am »
Help direct an old man.  While surfing different pattern sources I came across a pattern I thought would be good to cut for my brides Valentine this year.  Do you think I had for foresight to get it? -Noooo.  The pattern was of two stylized Owls with the words between them saying "Owl always Love You".  Anyone know where I say it?  Thanks in advance   Brian

Brag Forum / Steve's PAW SOME cats
« on: January 12, 2016, 11:30:44 am »
I loved Steve's design of "cat" sayings.  But I wanted them all so I put them onto a frame. The idea was to use a photo of our cat....  house-sum-ever...he is all black and you can't see anything but an outline.  So I've plugged in some other lucky cat owners pic off the internet. If you're looking Steve - thanks.  For all other - thanks for looking.  Cheer Brian

Pattern Requests. / Dutch Windmill
« on: December 30, 2015, 07:45:48 pm »
I'm looking for a traditional silhouette of a Dutch Windmill. It will be a backing for a dutch couple in the foreground. I would like to cut it at about 4-5"
[ 10-13 cm ] high so inside cuttings need to be minimal if at all.  Thanks for any direction you may offer.  Cheers  Brian

Brag Forum / Ready for Christmas
« on: December 18, 2015, 10:15:54 pm »
With the craft shows out of the way I finally finished a few things I want to give this year. The first is a butterfly shelf or wall display [thanks Steve]. I combined a couple of his projects - you might not be able to see the scrolled oak butterfly is floating and tipped off the photo.  The full circle slips out of the slotted base and can be a wall hanging.  I don't know how my wife's Dr. will display it.  The second photo is a Sue Mey design.  I stack cut 4.  3 are for our children's families. The 4th one we gave as a wedding gift back is Oct.  Thanks for looking and have a blessed holiday.  Brian

Brag Forum / FD Mike & Charle Brown Christmas Tree
« on: October 26, 2015, 10:38:45 am »
Posting for Mike. He just finished the 12 days of Christmas along with a few other Orn. PS - I'm calling the tree "Charlie Brown's" because it lacks some green.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers
