Before you ask the shelf was a last minute design change as they are top heavy and would not sit up.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Steve's Keychain Maker Reminder
« on: April 29, 2019, 12:14:07 pm »
Steve Good has given us thousand of patterns but the thing I use most is his Key Chain maker.

I have done a couple hundred keys chains as gifts.  Quick and easy and very well appreciated as a lot of kids have never had a personalized gift.
New scrollers may not know of this great program as it is way way down his blog. http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/

I have just complete one for each of the lacrosse team with their name and number.  I add ball chain as these go on their travel bag.

One thing about this font is there are some special characters that are useful too.  I did one for my wife with a heart at each end and the sports team I do with a star before the number.

The special characters are -
;-semi colon-  heart

,-comma-colon - star
-[-sq parenthesis dog bone start
-]-sq parenthesis dog bone close

Brag Forum / Pattern for Saturday March 16
« on: March 16, 2019, 01:27:20 pm »
Steve Good had a great pattern for Music - Piano that I really liked for my Granddaughter as she is really into music.  She does take piano lessons but singing is her thing.

Wanted to personalize so I came up with the attached.  It is not finished as I will let her decide the colours then either she or Gramma will paint.

Got to love Steve.

Intarsia / Update to Steve email Jan 31 for Canadians
« on: January 31, 2019, 07:47:35 am »
In todays update Steve talks about Flex sander.  They are really great to have even if you don't do intarsia.

I bought my original set up from JGR in TN but you can now get from Workshop Supply in Canada.  Price is the same but you don;t have to worry about customs etc.
http://store.workshopsupply.com/catalogue/intarsia-tools-c-206_834_807_810.html

They have an arrangement with Judy as you can also get a lot of her patterns there too.

I did a heart a couple of seeks ago simialr to Steve's and used my Flex Sander to shape.

The post with all the Sports Moms is very appropriate.  I have 2 daughters that go crazy.

The hockey Mom has 3 boys and is always on the go. AAA tournmanents all the time.

The other has a daughter playing rep Lacrosse.  Tournaments are all over.  No Lacrosse Mom so here is my version that I will cut this weekend.

Takes legal paper to fit.

I don’t know if you know it but there are some other characters in the keychain font.

I have done the dog chain a few times and the sports one I do have name – star - number

Dog biscuit open [ close].  Heart is comma, start is semi colon ;

Regular start is period - end with slash

General Scroll Saw Talk / Steve's Keychains
« on: November 09, 2017, 08:01:38 pm »
I was just finishing up an item on the Daddy Do List when I wonder how many recent scrollers know that Steve has this great program on his site.  It is was way down the blog near the bottom.

I have used is many times when I want a quick little gift and my daughter who is a principal needed Christmas gifts when she started at new school a few years ago I did one for each teacher.  She got lots of compliments and when she left it was mentioned in one of the teachers that he like her personal approach including a personal key chain.

She changed boards this year and the first thing I heard was ...DAD could you.  Thank heavens it only has 33 staff compared to 56 before.

The video that Steve did about this is at https://youtu.be/HEL5kpdgwNI

To get the program as I said go way down the blog and when you are there the Stencil Pattern maker is there too.  Great gift for teachers.

Had a chuckle about Steve's post today about changing Mom to Mum

I had already changed my pattern to Gramma.

Steve Patterns are easy to modify.  You can open the PDF in Inkscape at the appropriate page.

Ask Steve a question. / Problem with Peel and Stick
« on: September 16, 2017, 09:42:29 am »
I tried the Peel and Stick on a ornament (not too complex) and thought this was okay.

I am now cutting Dangles in pine and the peel and stick is lifting off between close areas.  I have tried putting packing tape on top.  I tried switching from fd-UR 3 blades to reverse #3.  Same issue.  I have done 8 others where I used tried and true blue painters tape and not a problem.

Thankfully, I have only one ready with peel and stick the next 8 are done with painters tape.

Brag Forum / Steve's Ornaments for 2017
« on: September 14, 2017, 05:49:09 am »
I made one of each of the personalized ornaments for a presentation at our club this week.  Just trying to drum up some business and motivate the members.

I usually do one for each person at the Christmas dinner as we use a place markers.

This year I am only doing one for each of the grand kids as I have another idea for Christmas.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Foot Switch
« on: May 28, 2017, 08:07:42 am »
In todays blog Steve talks about a foot switch.

I have a deadmans on my scroll saw but have a the on off type switch on my dremmel and on my sanding station.  The sanding station switch is hooked to a power bar that has the sander and the dust collector.

I got mine at Harbour Freight for less than $14 less than Amazon.

What does everyone else use?

Brag Forum / Valentines - Scary
« on: February 15, 2017, 08:53:37 am »
I have been married for over 48 years and it is scary how you think alike.

I was cutting Steve's Happy Valentines card when I miss cut the very last y and it looked bad.  I already had the backing cut and painted so when last Saturday Steve issued his pattern it was perfect as we have laughed before about my second favorite food group is ice cream - cookies is first.  I just had to resize a little.

Gave it to my wife yesterday and she gave me a card she bought.

Good laugh

Brag Forum / Baskets with handles
« on: August 13, 2016, 07:15:39 pm »
There is a post with a pattern on SSW.  There is a pattern and a video how to assemble.

On version 2 I used pegs to hold handles instead of dowels and I drilled a 18degree starter hole.

Made 2 so far in cherry with tung oil finish.
