The Coffee Shop / I was humbled to be chosen..
« on: November 16, 2015, 12:44:52 pm »
I know that lots of us do the same thing and share our items to the less fortunate or place items in raffles and auctions so I am truly humbled that they chose to feature my story in this issue of the SSW&C mag on page 72.
I shared my story in hopes it would motivate others to walk in our footsteps and give til it makes someone smile.

Pattern Requests. / Whirlygig patterns?
« on: January 16, 2015, 01:29:48 pm »
I'm going to have a large garden this year and I already have a ton of bird houses so the two are not going to go together very well.  I am looking for some whirlygig plans that will help keep the birds at bay.  Perhaps someone who has already built a few to mentor in the event I have questions during my build.
I tried to search Steve's blog but nothing came back.

edited for clarification...

Computer questions / Steves stencil printer help
« on: October 26, 2014, 11:48:29 am »
I use his little software gadget (stencil printer V 1.7) for making keychains all the time but I cannot for the life of me get it to print out 2 lines so i can do a compound keychain with two sides without printing out 2 separate patterns for the 2 different words.
Yes i click on the multi line and outline but no go.  How do you get it to display?  Pretty please.  Step by step for a puter numpty.

The Coffee Shop / Upgrading my jointer...
« on: August 13, 2014, 03:21:26 pm »
I sold my old sears jointer and am looking to upgrade to a 6-8 inch benchtop style jointer.
I'm leaning toward the Jet JJP-8BT or the Grizzly G0725.

Which jointer do you folks have and are you happy with it?

Which jointer would you get if you could add one to your workshop?

Gloria Bryan passed away last night.  I've known Gloria since the old AFSP days on msn.  She was a good friend and a wonderful generous designer of patterns.  She will be sorely missed.

Pattern Requests. / Labrador puppy.
« on: January 25, 2014, 12:59:03 pm »
I have a client who lives in New Jersey and recently their puppy a black lab died.  I've done a couple of other projects for her in memory of her daughters puppy.

She now want me to make a yard art approximately 18" tall and she want it to look like the attached sketch.
She does not want the ears defined and wants it to look like a puppy with the tail raised like in her sketch.

I shared several clip arts from google and bing but she insists it must look similar to her sketch and nothing I have found matches it.

Can you help me out here, pretty please?

I apologize for the quality of the scan.  You may need to do your own art work.

Brag Forum / Lamination saved the day.
« on: January 10, 2014, 12:53:56 pm »
You may remember my asking for assistance on this project.

Customer wanted me to make a desk name plate for his sister which contained both her children's' names on one plaque. It seemed like an easy request since the names with the exception of one letter in both names was a mirror image of the others name.
By inserting a heart shape and overlaying the different letters which dd not correspond with the mirror image this is what i came up with.

I use mahogany with a black walnut lamination to divide the names and give the appearance they were stand alone names, and then used the black walnut as a contrasting color for the applique of the letters D and Y.
Hope the customer likes it as much as I do.
First is a top view showing the lamination.
2nd Is Adam
3rd is mirror image for Maya.

Pattern Requests. / A little out there.
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:47:43 pm »
I've had a customer request a project.  I'm not quite sure what to do with this one.  Any help with a pattern would be appreciated.
Here is an excerpt from his email..
My cousin's kids' names are Adam and Maya. If you write the two words out in all caps, they are mirror images of each other except for the D in Adam and the Y in Maya. I thought for my cousin's birthday, I should get her a solid wooden (2" -3" tall, 3/4" deep) thing that is carved (cut out) in the shape of the letters ADAM, but the D is further inscribed inside a heart. When you flip it around, it looks like MAYA but the Y would be inscribed on the flip side of the heart.

Western red cedar.
Pretty thin stuff so I added a ply backer to the fish one to give some strength.
Eastern red cedar on Chestnut backer for the Birthday sign.
The recipient wanted to add his own hooks on the bottom to suspend the initials of whos birthday corresponds to that month.

Pattern Requests. / Mary-Joseph pattern lost
« on: November 15, 2013, 12:31:59 pm »
I cut this several years ago.  Now I can't find my pattern.  Any help would be appreciated.

The pic is too small in resolution and becomes pixalated when I expand it so I can't use it as a pattern. I'd use the one on top of my book case but one of the halos was broken during my move here. That is why I am re-cutting it. It is one of my favorites due to its simple elegance.

Pattern Requests. / I need your help please...
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:07:41 am »
The black and white image is the seal of Guam.   I need to have a name in the image Laguana Instead of Guam.  Like the attached photo.  The finished pattern needs to be 5x7 inches please...

There is a 2nd request using the same pattern but making it look like it is a large fishhook.   I know the image is really bad but it is the best she has.  Here is an example.

Hope you can help me out....
