Bulletins and News / Community Forum Down Time.
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:23:22 pm »
To all of you who tried to log in to the forum the last 48 hours, I am sorry for the downtime.
I upgraded the host server to PHP 7.4 and the forum software did not like that at all. I finally
got the forum software upgrades to 2.0.17 and it appears to be working now. I will try to watch
for any further issues until I am sure I have them solved. Let me know if you have any problems.

Bulletins and News / Forum Issues Today
« on: January 19, 2017, 05:00:16 pm »
A few issues with the forum today. 1/19/2017. I reloaded the database and uploaded the forum to the latest version. Everything looks good now. Let me know if the latest version gives you any issues. I have not checked the change log to see what they changed. I think it was mostly security and bug fixes.

Bulletins and News / New Pattern Catalog BETA Test
« on: July 23, 2015, 08:38:43 pm »
I just sent out the address of the new Scrollsaw Workshop Catalog to those who signed up to help me test it. If any more of you want to take a look here is the email I sent out. Feel free to look around and comment if you wish.

Thanks for offering to BETA test the new Scrollsaw Workshop catalog. It's now ready for the test.
I have spent the last few days inputting all the categories and keywords. All the patterns have categories but they will probably require tweaking.

There is a new feature in this catalog that allows for search by keyword.

The landing page has the latest patterns. You can use the category selector to browse by category including  "New and All" categories.

Here is what I'm looking for:

When you send the email please put BETA in the subject so i see it right away.

1. Bugs. If something does not work or you have a crash try to repeat the problem and document the sequence of events leading up to the problem. If you can't duplicate just report the bug.

2. Usability Issues: If you see something that can work better I want to hear that also. Details are helpful.

I'm not too interested in things like duplicate patterns, dead links, Typos etc.  Those are being worked by a couple of editors and I will have a link for those issues once the catalog goes public.

The length of the BETA will be somewhat determined by how the BETA goes.

Thanks again for the help. This has been a big project and I'm thrilled to have any help I can get.

Catalog Address

You might need to copy and paste the link into your browser to get it to work.

Bulletins and News / New Pattern Catalog
« on: July 08, 2015, 02:08:33 am »
Hey guys, in the next few days I will be changing to a different catalog technology for my patterns. It is still in development but it's getting close to needing beta testers. If you would be interested in helping test the catalog drop me an email. I'll get back to as many as I can with details when we get the catalog installed. Thanks for any help.

Bulletins and News / Style Changes for the text.
« on: May 26, 2014, 07:37:57 pm »
Hey guys I had several members mention that the Black on White text was hard on the eyes.  I'm lucky that my daughters boyfriend is a professional web designer. He was able to make some changes to the theme I use on the forum. When you open a topic to read the background is now a light grey with black text. I know I will never get the color scheme to every one's liking but I am going to experiment for a while longer until I get the best results I can. You can give me feedback here in the forum and I'll see what the consensus is. I hope this is better. The contrast is lower with these changes.

Next I am hoping to figure out why the old Avatar images are not converting right..... I hate that fuzzy look.

Bulletins and News / Button blank problem.
« on: May 22, 2014, 12:02:05 pm »
I have the issue with the blank forum buttons resolved with one exception. The gallery button still does not have it's text. I'll work on that later tonight.

Brag Forum / Project from a reader
« on: May 18, 2014, 01:09:23 am »
I wanted to share a project that a reader sent me. He took my Indian and Wolf portrait pattern and really made it a piece of art. His Name is Ken Blakemore.
The first image is his work and the second was the original.

General Scroll Saw Talk / New Community Forum
« on: May 16, 2014, 01:30:31 am »
It's pretty obvious there have been some changes to the forum. I did the upgrade from version 1.6.19 to 2.0.7 tonight. I think you will find the changes pretty easy to deal with. It looks different but works much like the old version. I'll be making tweaks for the next few days so be prepared for minor changes. The old version was just too buggy to continue to try to support. If you have questions just drop me an email and I'll try to answer them as best I can. A lot of the new software is still new to me also but I'll try to come up to speed asap.

Bulletins and News / New Community Forum
« on: May 15, 2014, 11:31:39 pm »
I am in the process of upgrading the Community Forum from the old version 1.x to the new version 2.x. There are going to be some growing pains while I make this transition. I hate to do this but the old version was just getting too buggy. Thanks for your patience.

Bulletins and News / Login issues
« on: January 02, 2014, 11:18:49 pm »
The login issue has shown up again. If you tried to login to the forum earlier today you may have been shown as banned. This is a bug in the forum software and nothing you have done. I know how to work around the problem now but I still have not been able to find the root cause. I'm looking into several different possible causes so be patient with me. Some have mentioned that it might be a virus or a hacker. I'm pretty sure that is not the case here. It looks more like a bug in the software. There are attempted attacks of the forum everyday believe it or not. What they almost always want is to put spam in the forum or swipe email addresses. They are looking to make money. They don't have any real reason to just do something like ban users randomly. I keep the forum software updated when new updates come out. Almost every update is to improve security. The authors of the forum software have done a pretty good job of shutting down the weak points.

Bulletins and News / Hidden Email Icon
« on: September 26, 2013, 01:01:22 am »
For privacy and security reasons I have removed the email icon that was visible in every post on this forum. There is an option in the set up when you sign up that is suppose to allow you to hide your email address from other forum members. This option had stopped working for some reason. I am investigating why this was not working and will repair it as soon as I know it will work properly again. In the mean time if you wish to have the email address from any forum member you will have to PM them and ask for it. Please don't share your email address in an open post. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience but it needs to be done to make sure your privacy is maintained.

I'm pretty sure this temporary/permanent solution will work but please keep an eye out for me. I had to modify the php code and that is not a language I'm fluent in. Let me know if you see other instances that might reveal your email address or if my fix does not work for you.

Bulletins and News / Spammers
« on: April 21, 2013, 11:34:19 am »
We are having more than normal spammer postings the last few days. Thanks for everyone who is reporting the spam. I am deleting the accounts as quickly as possible. I have decided to change the registration process to see if I can slow these punks down a little. I'm also trying to go through the thousands of accounts and weed out suspected spammers. Sorry for the inconvenience.
