Ask Steve a question. / Re: Login isn't permanent
« on: April 22, 2023, 08:58:46 am »
dwightsiers, the login does seem to hold in Chrome.  Thanks for the suggestion but there is a small problem, I hate Chrome, but that's just me.  Steve seems to be busy now so I'll use Chrome until I can get in touch with him to see if he has an idea.  Of course, if anyone else has an idea, I'll be happy to try it as well.

Ask Steve a question. / Login isn't permanent
« on: April 17, 2023, 08:59:14 am »
Lately I have to login each time I come to the site.  This happens each time I restart my computer - which is every day, even if I select the "forever" option on how long to stay logged in.  I am running Windows 10 Pro and Firefox, in case that helps.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Steve.  Will put it in my file for reference.

Have a good day.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: delta 40-694
« on: November 22, 2020, 09:34:16 am »
I watched the Gwinnett repair videos on the 788 before I delved into my 694.  I didn't find any internal differences between the 788 and the 694 so I think you are safe using any of the Gwinnett videos as a reference.  The latest video is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P4E1At82lc.  On the right side of the page are links to the previous Gwinnett videos - a series of 4 and another update I think.  Great information and I recommend them before taking your 694 apart.

Rick's website http://www.scrollsaws.com/ has information on vibration and other problems of the 788 and they apply (as far as I know) to the 694.  In the left column look for the "Dewalt Tuneup" link.

That should be enough reading to certainly get you started.  Good luck.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Flaking
« on: November 05, 2020, 08:51:36 am »
You could also try attaching a sacrificial board to the bottom.  Then the flakes are torn out of the waste board.  Be sure to tape the two together well.  If the flakes are not to big, more like fuzzies, then a sanding mop can remove them from the work piece.
Good luck,
Jim

The Delta 40-694 is a clone of the 788 and is often on sale.  Steve Good occasionally reports when it is on sale (in the US), sometimes at a significant saving.

It's another choice to consider.  I have one and is  identical to the 788 , except for the paint colours.

dougiefresh, there are a few web sites that will help.  http://www.scrollsaws.com/ - on the left scroll down to Dewalt tuneup.  There are some ideas on dealing with noise, and other problems that could come up.  If you want to get into the guts of the saw, there are some good videos here https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/26264-to-all-the-dewalt-788-owners/page/2/?tab=comments#comment-290935 - scroll down to the videos.  Here's an update on the videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P4E1At82lc&feature=youtu.be.  It isn't that difficult to strip down the saw and to grease it as needed.

Remember that the 40-694 is essentially a repainted Dewalt 788.

Good luck, there's enough info here to keep you busy for a while.

I have the Jim dandy lifter. https://jimdandy.com/collections/all-products/products/easy-lift-system-for-dewalt-scroll-saw-dw788. It works well for me and has given no trouble. YMMV.

Good luck selecting a lifter.

The Coffee Shop / Cute sign
« on: April 28, 2019, 11:40:53 am »
Just spent a week in the hospital but all is OK now.  I saw this sign, the only non-serious sign in the place, and thought it was cute.  It would make a good cutting if someone made a pattern from it.  A gift for your favorite medical person?

Enjoy,
Jim

Pattern Requests. / Re: Missing pattern part

Judy, I tried searching Google images for that picture but got nothing.  Perhaps the picture is too grainy as you posted it.  If you have a good quality image, try the Google image search.

Good luck.

The Coffee Shop / Ain't it the truth
« on: November 20, 2018, 06:33:00 pm »
By today's standards none of us were supposed to ever make it.

Scenario 1:

Jack goes duck hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck's gun rack.

1957 - Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.

2017- School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

Scenario 2:

Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2017 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled, even though Johnny started it.

Scenario 3:

Jeffrey will not be still in class; he disrupts other students.

1957 - Jeffrey sent to the Principal's office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.

2017 - Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.

Scenario 4:

Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.

1957 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman.

2017 - Billy's dad is arrested for child abuse, Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by Billy's sister that she remembers being spanked herself, and their dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has an affair with the psychologist.

Scenario 5:

Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1957 - Mark shares his aspirin with the Principal out on the smoking dock.

2017 - The police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons.

Scenario 6:

Pedro fails high school English.

1957 - Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.

2017 - Pedro's cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:

Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.

1957 - Ants die.

2017 - ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents - and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny's dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

Scenario 8:

Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957–In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2017- Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

This should hit every email in-box to show just how stupid we have become!

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Wobbly blade clamp
« on: November 02, 2018, 01:20:44 pm »
Barb, if you want to open up the saw and to replace some parts, I put a couple of links in a recent post that will help you with the process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNt2Y0ajDwk  and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P4E1At82lc&feature=youtu.be

They are long, but sure helped me getting into and lubing my saw.

Good luck,
Jim
