Could you print the picture then trace it onto the wood.  Select only what you want to see when you trace?  That is doing it the old fashion way, but sometimes, it is the way that works.  Just a thought.

Bet most of us has done something similar.  I've done it more than once.  The worst one I did was a very detailed Mike Williams moose picture.  When I finally finished the picture I noticed I didn't have the border quite even.  No problem, I'll just shave a little off one side on the table saw..........  I couldn't even find all the pieces!!  It just blew apart... Lucky I had stack cut 2.. and now there is one!

I do it with a heat guy, just do not over do it or you will ruin the joint you are heating.  They melt....  Does not take a whole lot of heat.

Tutorials, Techniques and Tips / Re: peel and stick
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:18:00 am »
I just finished a detail picture using 1/4" Basswood.  I used the peal and stick shelf liner, clear.  It worked fine as far as no lifting while scrolling, but when it came time to remove the pattern, that was a different matter.  Took me over two hours to get it off, having to work very slowly and cautiously.  In several places the paper would come off but the liner was still stuck.  Really hard to see it because it is clear and much thinner than tape.  I finally got it off without losing anything, so I sanded the picture as I always do, and gave it a bath in MS/BLO.  It has been sitting for three days drying.  I picked it up today to look it over before applying Deft over it and under the light I can see residue from the liner that I could see or feel before.  Not sure what I will do now.  Guess sand again.  I don't think I will use the shelf liner again on a detailed picture.  If I do, I will try some colored liner,  Not sure why it has to be clear.

All I am saying here is, yes it works, but on real detailed pictures, and soft wood, like Basswood, I for one will go back to the blue tape.

This is the picture I cut, so you will know what I mean by detailed picture:

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Comparison of Pegas to Flying Dutchman blades
« on: February 05, 2018, 11:51:00 am »
I don't think there is a one to one comparison.  I found a verity pack of the Pegas blades and tried different sizes.  I found that for me, I do mostly detailed fretwork pictures and usually never stack cut thicker than 3/8" total thickness, the smaller size Pegas Modified Geomerty (MG) blades were too aggressive.  I really liked the #3 and #5 for thicker item and for some reason, like people say, it is a snap to cut a straight line with them.  I also tried some of the smaller Pegas blades that were not MG and I liked them, but I had to use a larger size than what I used in FD blades, like where I would us a 2/0 FD blade, I would go for a #1 Pegas.  I do like the Pegas blades and am getting quite a stock of them.  I also use the 3/0 New Spiral blade (FD) and it was the only spiral I liked.  I tried the Pegas 2/0 spiral and I really liked it also.  It cuts a little bigger kurf than the FD 3/0, but it cuts nicely and seems to last longer.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Arm Lifter for the DeWalt Saw

but.... I hear a rattle.... ?

I had the Jim Dandy on my DeWalt, when I had a DeWalt.  I really liked it, you just lifted the arm, it stayed up until you pulled it down.  I never had a problem with it: http://www.jimdandy.com/products.html  $21.95 plus shipping.

I ordered a verity packs of Pegas blades many months ago of Pegas skip tooth blades and their modified geometry blades.  There are so many veritables related to scrolling that I try to stay away fro, recommending blades as well as saws.  A lot is personal preference and personal cutting styles.  Only thing I do recommend is buy a verity of types and sizes and try them.  I found, for me, I did not do well with Pegas Modified Geometry blades smaller than a #3.  Just two aggressive for cutting small detail for me.  I like the sizes above #3, when doing thicker, larger pieces.  For the smaller size I preferred the Pegas Skip Tooth. But, I also found I would use a #1 Pegas Skip Tooth, where I would use a Flying Dutchman #2/0. So for me I could not just go size-wise.  So I would suggest verity pack first (I found my verity packs at Lesley's Pattern site).

As for purchasing FD blades, from Wooden Teddy Bear (WTB) verses Mike's, I found it depends on what amount of blades you are buying.  Example, my last"big" (for me) order of FD blades, I wanted to buy some sizes by the gross, and some sizes by in quantities of less than a gross.  So I figured the cost plus shipping of filling my order at WTB verse Mike's.  At Mike's you can choose different sizes of the same type blades to make a gross.  At WTB you can get the gross price by ordering a gross of different types of blades.  (hope that makes sense).  Anyway, on the exact same order I saved a little over $6 total purchasing from WTB even though the shipping was higher.  So it may be worth the time to figure the cost of the order at both places.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Clock Insert Question

I can not answer you question, but I have been looking at the Cremona wall clock at Finescrollsaw and trying to figure what I would need to build it.  I see that a Boris Radovskiy, of the USA built one that is shown at the site.  He is a member of the Carolina Scrollers club, it says.  I looked up their website, and I think when I am ready to get real serious about building the clock I will try to get in touch with him (through the club) and ask where he got his clock movement.  Boris also built the clock you are wanting to build.  You may try to make contact with him and ask.  Also, have you looked a  the Klockit site.  They may have something.
