« on: June 23, 2021, 07:27:19 pm »
In the left-hand column of the blog, there is a search box. Type gnome and let the blog refresh. It will show every post that has the word seared for in it.
After a few posts, you will come to a (next post-previous post black bar). Click next post and it will continue searching.

« on: February 08, 2021, 08:20:04 pm »
The forum software was corrupted and needed to be reloaded. This caused
the Gallery software to fail. I am working on reloading the gallery. It may take me a few days.
Sorry for the trouble.

Bulletins and News / Community Forum Down Time.
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:23:22 pm »
To all of you who tried to log in to the forum the last 48 hours, I am sorry for the downtime.
I upgraded the host server to PHP 7.4 and the forum software did not like that at all. I finally
got the forum software upgrades to 2.0.17 and it appears to be working now. I will try to watch
for any further issues until I am sure I have them solved. Let me know if you have any problems.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Layed Patterns
« on: June 15, 2019, 10:36:09 pm »
Hi Bill. I'll be honest. They are not my favorite patterns to cut either. Mostly because they
require so much wood(I'm cheap) and time. The ones that look good to me are very complex designs. My
designs were very basic and that does not show the best features of this kind of project. My patterns were
more of an introduction to the art than what I would consider good examples.

If you cut  a large and complex layered project you may have six layers with hundreds of
interior cuts. That's a lot of wood and time. These patterns were initially created for
laser cutters. Time to cut is not much of a factor with a laser.

Hi Shelly, the link is correct but you have to have an email client associated with your browser. Because so many people use online email now it causes issues. I have added the email address below the button now so people can also just copy and paste. That's probably easier than trying to explain how to update the browser setting to make it work. Thanks for reminding me that I needed to correct that.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Top Clamp knob for Seyco ST-21
« on: May 10, 2017, 04:23:34 am »
Those knobs are made by a gentleman down in Georgia by the name of Marcus Bailey. You can reach him at 404-274-2532. He prefers calls but his email is scrollsawcomfortknob@gmail.com. He may be a little slow answering the email so be patient. They are $15 each and there are two sizes. I prefer the larger knob but the smaller one
does give more distance between your fingers and the wood.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: CNC Machine
« on: March 06, 2017, 09:59:34 am »
Hi Danny, I have an x-carve CNC machine. It comes as a kit and has a pretty good following. The software that comes with the machine is pretty limited so be prepared to spend some dollars on high end software to design the projects. The kit took me a few hours to build but there was nothing too difficult.

Dave Gatton sells an excellent kit that lots of people say works great. His web site is at this link. http://www.garageworxcnc.com/
Dave does a weekly YouTube podcast where you can get loads of information about the topic.

Good to hear it worked for you. I hate to throw wood away. I have pieces of scrap wood that I'll probably never use but just can't throw it away. One of these days I'll have a nice fire in the fireplace I guess. Welcome to the forum.

General Scroll Saw Talk / Re: Wonderpaper by Jason
« on: January 30, 2017, 04:00:53 am »
If you do not have any luck with getting the Wonderpaper I have had good luck using
Avery white removable labels 6465. They are full sheet labels that print on laser or inkjet printers.
Here is the Amazon link if you are interested.
http://amzn.to/2kENWnd Affiliate link.
I did not have any major pattern lifting issues with these labels and they are easy to remove and re position.
They are around $15 on Amazon.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Subjective "JET" review....
« on: January 23, 2017, 12:27:06 am »
Hi apopj, my personal opinion is that if you are a dedicated top feeder you should look at a different machine. If you are open to make the change then make sure you go use the machine if possible before you buy.

I don't know if you could call the blade change tool free. I guess you could say it does not require external tools. Either way it has become second nature for me in a short time. Keep in mind that I am a bottom feeder.

The trade off of the having the outstanding upper clamp is the less desirable lower clamp. I can see some people disliking the lower clamp and understand their thoughts. As a bottom feeder I do not personally find it to be a problem and I was a skeptic. The upper clamp is so nice that for me it more than makes up for the lower clamp.

If you read my blog you know that the patterns I design are not that complex. None of the 2,000 patterns in my catalog would take more than two or three blade changes at most. If you are building very complex projects like the Bell Tower clock the blade changes might be a bigger issue but not for the more casual scroller.

I like the Jet machine very much. It's not perfect but neither are any of the others. At this point it will likely be my go to saw at least until the next great machine comes along. That said if I had to go back the the Excalibur it would not be a problem. I love that machine also. I would not even be that sad to go back to the DeWalt. I can get the job done with any of them and be happy.

Thanks for the kind words about my blog. It always feels good when someone appreciates what I do. The truth is I get way more out of it than I put into it. I have what I consider friend in dozens of countries all over the world. I enjoy that a lot.

Bulletins and News / Forum Issues Today
« on: January 19, 2017, 05:00:16 pm »
A few issues with the forum today. 1/19/2017. I reloaded the database and uploaded the forum to the latest version. Everything looks good now. Let me know if the latest version gives you any issues. I have not checked the change log to see what they changed. I think it was mostly security and bug fixes.

Good news. The detective just called and they have identified the suspect. They issued a felony arrest warrant. He also has other outstanding arrest warrants. Imagine that. They were able to get a hit on the license plate and it belonged to his girlfriend. They found her facebook page and identified the suspect from pictures there matched to my video. Now they just have to find him. I suspect that won't be much of a problem unless he has left the state. His picture has been all over the TV so someone will call in on him.

Hi Mike, thanks for the words of sympathy. It is difficult even though we knew it was coming for a few days now. I miss her but I am glad she did not have to suffer any longer.

Hi Jerry, I am almost certain it is a false positive. Here are the results from VirusTotal. It passes every test. This happens to my site sometimes also. False positives are a problem. The biggest issue is that you have to tell people to trust their virus software or they may as well just un-install it. https://www.virustotal.com/en/ does help give you something to go by.

Ask Steve a question. / Re: Scrollnado
« on: September 22, 2016, 03:45:17 pm »
Hi Buey, the Scrollnado can use any shop vac but it needs to have either a 1 1/4" hose or a hose reducer. This is one of the smaller hoses and not standard on most full size shop vacs.
