I read a post on here about the older Dewalt made in Canada were better quality saws than the new ones. I am looking at replacing my Craftsman mainly because the blade tension is hard for me to set on it.
My question is do I need to look for older model Dewalt or go ahead with a new one?

I own and use one of the newer model 788's and I have had NO problems with the setting of the tension. I used a Craftsman for a spell and another model that was also a pinned blade, rear set tension.
No comparison - get the new model 788 and you will not regret doing so, at least in my opinion.

I'm with Al on this one. I also upgraded from a Craftsman due to tensioning issues and I am very pleased with the performance of the DW788. Low vibration, easy blade change, and angles both directions.

One important thing to consider. DeWalt has a 30 day no questions asked return policy and a one year warranty. A used saw has none whatsoever.

I have the 788 new style and it is great. I don't think you will be dissappointed with one.

Arkiewood, the Delta 40-690 is a clone of the DW788. I have one and it works very well. Tension sets easily. Delta has updated the 40-690 to a 40-695 which has a built-in mechanism to keep the upper arm elevated for blade changes, etc. It does have a 5 year warranty.

I slso have the 40-695.... I only have the use of one arm and raising/locking the upper arm is a breeze. Check out CPO Outlet. They usually run a good deal on the Delta and Dewalt models.

I once had a DeWalt 788 (Type 2) and it cut very well, blade changes are easy. It ran smooth. The only thing I found is that it kept falling apart....literaly. After the warranty ran out (about 20 months) I sold it and bought a more durable $aw. A Hegner. I have used this Hegner every day for about 4 years, now, with no problems.
